What is your musical background?
I started to play the guitar at age 13. I had lessons with a local guitar teacher who specialised in blues rock. It was a very practical approach with almost no theory. As I evolved with my instrument and developed my curiosity for music in general, I felt that I wanted to understand the “why” of almost everything I did. I joined a music conservatory in São Paulo to get more answers. I am still looking to improve my musical knowledge and my knowledge of life, hahaha! It is an ongoing process for all of us!
Why did you decide to apply for an online music degree?
I enrolled on the BA (Hons) Creative Music Performance JTC Degree because I felt the need to and understand music and my instrument at a more professional level that would set me apart as a modern guitar player. Before entering the JTC Degree, I took a Music Business Diploma course with Megadeth’s lead guitarist Kiko Loureiro. The course helped me to develop a new mindset to approach the music industry. One of the main things that I took from the Music Business course was that my guitar playing is a product, and if it is a product then it had better be a cutting edge one! The JTC Degree has definitely put me on the right path to archive my highest potential.
What are your short and long-term academic and career goals?
In the short term, I want to further enhance my knowledge in Music Entrepreneurship and the practice of making a living using multiple income streams. I also want to begin the building process of projects relevant to my personal career goal, and start to build an online following and fanbase. Longer term, I want to establish a living where most of my income is derived from online activities. I would also like to perform live with my musical project and to complete a Masters Degree.
What music are you currently listening to?
I listen to a wide range of music. In Hip-Hop, I’m listening to Dr. Dre and Eminem; in instrumental fusion I’m listening to Greg Howe, and Guthrie Govan; in jazz, Herb Ellis and Joe Pass; and in metal / progressive, Animals as Leaders and Linear Sphere. In terms of guitar players, I’m currently listening to Mateus Asato, Jeff Loomis, Rick Graham, and Andy James.
Why did you volunteer to be the Student Representative?
I like to help others in the best way I can, It provides me with a rewarding feeling whenever I can make a difference in peoples lives. I’m a person who always has something to say, and likes to take action in problem solving in a positive and constructive manner. I saw a great potential in the Student Representative role and would like to use it to further unite DIME’s online community and encourage active contribution from other students.
