Units of Study

The online course consists of three units that are compulsory to the Professional Diploma qualification. These are:

  • PD411 Understanding Learning

In this unit, you will understand how pedagogical approaches can be applied to your own teaching, how different learner groups develop and how this affects the selection of repertoire and teaching styles.

  • PD409 Planning, Facilitating & Evaluating Learning

This unit is about developing your knowledge, skills and understanding of planning, facilitating and evaluating teaching and learning.  Evidence of planning, facilitating and evaluating learning should be drawn from your own teaching practice for individuals or groups working up to level 3 (Grade 8/Intermediate).

  • PD408 Inclusive Learning

This unit is about developing your knowledge, skills and understanding of inclusivity and how it is applied in teaching practice. You will learn how to consider the diverse needs and backgrounds of all students to create a learning environment where they feel valued and have equal access to learn.

The qualification also requires one optional unit which is supported in the online course.

  • PD410 Assessment

In this unit you will develop an understanding of the principles of formative and summative assessment, and the ability to identify student needs, track progress, make clear and robust assessment decisions and give appropriate and constructive feedback to your students.

The aim of the Professional Diploma course is to help you develop the skills you need as an educator while you gain a recognised qualification. Some of the topics covered in the course include:

How is it taught?

The course is taught entirely online with 24/7 access to all content through our virtual learning environment. Students will be mentored by one of the DIME ONLINE team and will receive feedback on all of their tasks and final coursework.

Length of course

Students have access to the course for a total of 12 weeks. This includes 8 weeks of lessons and an additional 4 weeks for students to complete their final submissions and have these reviewed by their tutor.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for the course. However, students should ensure that they are aware of the requirements and expectations of the qualification before they apply for entry.


It is recommended that applicants for the course are 18+ years of age; younger applicants may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Course Assessment

The various units within the course are assessed through the submission of coursework as outlined in the Professional Diploma unit specifications. All final coursework must be submitted to the RSL website to achieve the qualification but will be checked and given feedback prior to submission by DIME faculty.


The RSL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Teaching is listed on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in England and Northern Ireland by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OfQual), in Wales by Qualifications Wales and in Scotland by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.



The cost of the course is £650 with a discount available for paying in full. Registration for the submission of final coursework for the RSL Professional Diploma must be done on the RSL website for an additional cost of £295.
