We are happy to introduce Music Entrepreneurship student, Skyleigh Urriutia, based in Los Angeles, California!!
Where are you located in the world and what are you studying?
I’m based in Los Angeles, California and I’m studying Music Entrepreneurship!
What is your background?
Mostly just a huge passion for live music and being surrounded by bands and music lovers. I also have a lot of experience in musical theatre and tech theatre, as well as hands on experience with the touring life.
Why did you decide to apply for an online music degree?
I find that I retain information better and enjoy myself more when I get to be independent and work at my own pace. I grew up on an education like this, so I really enjoy it.
What are you short and long term academic and career goals?
There are two things that I would love to do in the industry. I’d love to be an artist manager and grow with very small artists and help them to become successful. It’s a dream to get to a really high level with an artist/band and be able to tour and travel the world with them. I’d also love to go into music supervision as more of a day job until I can manage small artists full time. It combines my love for film and music.
Who were some of your musical influences?
Imagine Dragons absolutely. I’ve done so much with them over the past 6 years since they first came onto the scene. Their entire crew has been nothing but supportive of me in the industry- and their music is the best. I was raised on a lot of different music, particularly classic artists like Tom Petty, The Beatles, Paul Simon and the reggae staples; Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, Ben Harper, SOJA, etc.
What music are you currently listening to?
I love Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Nico Vega, Magic Man, Lorde, Grouplove, Foster the People, ODESZA, Nuages, Tolman, Weezer, twentyonepilots, The 1975, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Young the Giant, Walk the Moon, Bon Iver, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, K Flay, etc.
